Thing 1: Lifelong Learning

Most challenging habit? Play. Oh, I know for sure there’s a lot to play with. I’m just not sure yet what playing with Web 2.0 entails. Transcendence? Eye strain?

Easiest habit? Accept responsibility for my own learning. Not a year has gone by that I haven’t pushed myself to develop new assignments and projects, teach some new text, or write my own stories and examples to share with the students. Wait a minute? Did I say that was easy?

Most important habit? Use tech to my advantage. I suppose I feel quite confident when it comes to experimenting with writing assignments and projects, even ones that may use high tech in a low tech way, like finding a cool New Yorker article online. And I certainly know in my gut that there are probably some very cool web tools I could have my students use that would enhance what we’re already doing and take some of the assignments in directions I sense but don’t really know are possible. So what I end up doing is telling myself…yeah, a blog would be very cool, the idea of students posting and reacting. But then I think about the startup time, and I know it’s not as much as I think it may be, but I also wonder if it’s worth it, and I tell myself, it probably is, and I’ll try that soon. Not yet. But soon. So that’s why I’m doing this. To discover possibilities that will work to my advantage and my students’ advantage.
